Vroon | Reducing operation risk
Who are Vroon?
Vroon Offshore (formerly Viking Offshore) is a dynamic and ambitious international shipping company, active in a number of specialised and commodity-type shipping segments. Vroon operates and manages a diverse fleet of about 150 vessels. One of Vroon’s seven markets include offshore support vessels.
The Business Need
Vroon tasked 4c Design with the investigation of how they could reduce the risk involved when launching and recovering Fast Response Crafts (FRC) from their operating supply vessels.
Our Activities and Deliverables
Following an intensive research exercise, 4c responded by developing a range of thoroughly tested solutions, from mechanical through to technological and procedural. Our response to the brief also included the build of a functional prototype which has gone on to be deployed in successful trials in the North Sea.
The Result
The prototype system developed by 4c demonstrated that the operator risk was reduced when launching and recovering a FRC by retro fitting our novel device. It allowed the crew ‘one hand free for the boat’ whilst hooking the lifting straps. The telescopic mast housed an internal spring that helped reduce the shock loading experienced by the crew when the davit operator lifts the RIB out of the water. If you would like to know more about the system and how it could be adapted for your craft please contact us.
