What We Were Asked To Do
The brief was to develop a modular outdoor under-floor heated structure that would be easy to assemble, effective in difficult weather conditions and have an attractive architectural appeal.
Ferado conducted research and the results indicate that 92% of respondents would prefer to eat or drink outside given the chance. 65% of respondents suggested that being too cold prevented them from doing so.
Our Solution
Our hands-on approach allowed us to make an important discovery at an early stage in the design process, that under floor warmed air heating did not provide the level of comfort or efficiency that was practical. We adapted the product specification to an overhead radiant heating system that generates infrared energy. Radiant heating is like sunlight, it doesn’t warm the air so it is more efficient at keeping the occupants warm even on the coldest midwinter days. The terrace 4c Design created has proven highly successful for Ferado as a new entry to a huge market.
