Parasite Extraction

What We Were Asked To Do

Commissioned by Moredun Research Institute to extract the damaging nematode worm from the stomachs of livestock, the machine is capable of extracting up to 1kg of material per day. This may not sound like much, but, 1g of nematode worm can produce up to £1000 worth of vaccine. The vaccine can be used to prevent livestock disease worldwide, saving up to £1billion of losses from diseases stemming from the parasite.

Our Solution

To develop this type of specialised equipment, 4c worked in close partnership with the veterinary surgeons and scientists at MRI, making sure they understood both the technical and human factors that contribute to an effective piece of equipment.

Life science is a highly integrated global industry, therefore the machine was designed in 3D CAD to ensure that it was sufficiently light and portable for transport to locations as far afield as Australia.
