FRC Launcher

What We Were Asked To Do

Vroon Offshore, formerly Viking Offshore, is a world-wide service provider of emergency response and rescue services to the offshore oil and gas industry. They asked 4c to investigate how we could reduce the risk involved when launching and recovering Fast Response Crafts (FRC) from their operating supply vessels.

Our Solution

4c responded by carrying out an in depth research exercise inside the company to find out exactly when, where and how accidents and occurred, this translated into a range of solutions that ranged from mechanical, technological and procedural. Whilst Viking implemented our procedural and technological changes 4c developed a mechanical solution. This consisted of a telescopic 'Pick-up Mast' fitted to the FRC with an integrated shock system offering a reduction in the snatch loading experienced when crews recover the FRC in big seas. The mast also pre-tensions the lifting slings, freeing up a spare hand to hold onto the boat whilst  'hooking onto' the davit crane of the operating vessel when returning from the open seas. We built a functional prototype in our workshops that has been through successful trials in the North Sea.
