“Good design must be functional as well as aesthetic. The 4c Design team draws on a wide range of skills, tools and experience to deliver designs that combine good looks with intuitive functionality.”
Will Mitchell – Design Director
Product Design (and Industrial Design) is a umbrella of useful skills and connected services. In essence it holds every service we offer, as it’s core function is to make a better product. Our team consists of product design engineers, industrial designers and engineers who are excited to fix bad design or take on a new challenge from a client to solve problems that people might not have known existed. Concentrating on the different aspects of product design, we focus on feasibility, form, usability, function and ergonomics to provide tangible solutions.
Investment of both time and money is a serious issue. 4c Design can make a difference by testing your new product design ideas to assess their viability at the early stages, (when it is relatively cost effective). Our Feasibility Studies provide a thorough understanding and expert opinion on potential project stages, costs, timings and projected success rates. This approach is ideal for complex problems, where the market is poorly understood, the technology unknown or the business model untested.
Visualisation and ‘bringing it to life’ is the key to effective communication on any design project. Informed visuals allow you to make informed decisions early on in the design innovation process, avoiding last minute changes and / or expensive re-tooling. We use multiple visualising tools ranging from concept sketches, rapid prototypes, foam models to technical drawings and photo-realistic renders. We can also develop and produce detailed animations to assist your own presentation needs. We use the latest CAD software and imaging packages.
With a fully equipped workshop on-site, we are expertly placed to design and deliver a professional prototype of your new product design. Our ability to understand and represent the mechanical and design issues of a project inevitably lead to quicker and more efficient solutions. We will explore a range of options (on paper, online and in physical form) to help you and the rest of your team (where applicable) understand how your product could look, how it may work and what the user experience may be like.
Computer Aided Design (CAD) helps us to visualise and understand a product and is crucial to our product development process. 4c Design are cross-industry specialists in the use of CAD and our design engineers are all Certified SolidWorks Professionals. Full CAD data is developed and discussed before proceeding to final product development. As ‘early adopters’ of 3D CAD as far back as 1997, we have continually invested in our CAD training, workstations and modelling skills.
Any new product, whether it is a development of an existing product or a completely new device, has a personality and a function. This is what informs the marketing of the product. What is it called, what does it do and how does it do it better that the last one or the competition? We can either collaborate with a Brand or Sales team or work independently to develop the product identity.
