I had an interesting evening last night at the Velet and Silk Cafe. Despite the name this was not a chance to discuss soft furnishings while sipping tea but rather a gathering of people with a connection to art and design to discuss a range of topics including science fiction influenced architecture, LEDs and the Paradise Gardens in Kashmir. I was particularly taken by an emotive description of Hans van der Laan’s monastery in Vaals.
I spoke about Graeme Obree’s bike – slightly less visually striking but significant in terms of its design all the same.
As a piece of design work I think this is a great example of what can be achieved on a limited budget but with a bit of imagination. It can be spotted in the newly opened Transport Museum in Glasgow.
