Last Friday the 4c Design crew crammed into the fun bus and descended upon the city centre on an intrepid adventure… Destination – the MAKLAB!
Located just off Buchanan Street in The Lighthouse, MAKLAB is an open workshop that offers designers the chance to use the latest digital toys in a creative environment to help take their projects to the next level. Catering for a large range of technical ‘know-how’ and abilities, the friendly MAKLAB team offer members the advice required to make best use of the equipment in addition to providing full training and technical support. They offer a facility the likes of which have never been seen previously in Glasgow and deliver an almost walk in, on the spot service to allow anyone to “Dream it, Design it, MAK’ it!”
- 3D Scanners and Printers
- Laser Cutters
- 3 Axis
- CNC Milling and Routing
- Digital Embroidery
- Vinyl Cutting
On top of this they also provide a large array of different materials at trade prices and computing facilities to help get projects off the ground and into development ASAP. As far as 4c is concerned, the expression “kids in a candy shop” has never been so much of an understatement!
How the local design community ever got by without a facility like this is a mystery and we at 4c are excited to see some of the innovative creations that come from it over the coming months.
In summary, the MAKLAB offers a fantastic facility and service that will reinforce the capabilities and effectiveness of Glaswegian designers, helping to develop the next generation of blue sky innovation and model making. We at 4c are now proud members and see this space as a priceless resource which will be utilized to the upmost in order to expand and strengthen our fabrication and prototyping proficiencies.
