In my role as an ambassador for all things engineering, I participated at a school’s careers convention last night. For two hours I was grilled about my education, career path, reasons for choosing the profession and general day-to-day working life. I have done a few of these types of events now and I’ve been continually surprised by the lack of enthusiasm for engineering and the large misconceptions of what an engineer might actually do. So it was great to have a really enthusiastic response last night with some of the pupils actively wanting to pursue a career in engineering. I hope I was able to explain what an interesting, challenging, fun and satisfying career it can be.
