A NUMBER of years ago, US based H.J. Heinz Co. advertised its ketchup with the infamous slogan, “The best things come to those who wait.” Generations of Britons have observed the ketchup-pouring ritual: unscrew the bottle,invert, slap, and wait. And wait… But Heinz don’t want consumers to wait any more. And they don’t need to Heinz have developed a new, inverted easy squeeze bottle which improves the dispensing of ketchup and eliminates any watery separation that can sometimes occur when the ketchup isn’t properly shaken. Impressive features include a multi-layer injection-moulding technology, a no-drip dispensing closure and a silicone valvewhich gives users better control when squirting and prevents the-messy goop that sometimes forms on the cap. Simple, common sense design, it’s been a while in the making but it’s been worth the wait!”
WORST: TRAIN TOILET ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCK
On a quick poll of friends, more than a few haveundergone the embarrassing scenario of openingan electronic door from the outside to discover a fellow passenger already using the convenience. The unsuspecting user obviously hasn’t realised that they have to press the separate ‘lock button’. The easy way to solve this design problem is to simply reassign the functions of the buttons so that one OPENS the door and the other CLOSES and LOCKS the door simultaneously. There is a definite argument to say that this new technology has been put into place without due attention to the interface design and replacing the mechanical lock with an electrical one now causes confusion and doubt over whether the door is locked or not. Either fix it or resort to the good old days of a simple lock and bolt mechanism.
